Our Mission
Our mission is to promote and preserve fibre crafts by actively engaging in their practice and teaching. We believe these skills are best understood through doing, and our workshops are designed to introduce participants to crafts and have them leave with enough knowledge to be able to continue with it.
We work closely with the Rannoch Woolery, a newly founded initiative focused on revitalising the use of local fleece. Together, we aim to help build a more self-sustaining local wool economy—one that values raw fibre, traditional knowledge, and practical craftsmanship.
Through education, experimentation, and hands-on making, we hope to bring wool back to the forefront of Scottish craft and industry, reconnecting people with the materials and processes that have shaped rural life for generations.
The Rannoch Woolery
Rannoch Mill supports the Rannoch Woollery Project, which aims to create value from our local fleeces that are often overlooked or considered uneconomic.
Many fleeces are currently burned, buried or discarded despite being a renewable and useful natural resource. Through education, experimentation and traditional craft skills, the project explores new ways of transforming these fibres into useful products and preserving the knowledge needed to work with them.
The project seeks to build relationships between farmers and craftspeople as well as seeking to build local economies around wool processing in Rannoch and beyond.
